Digital service book: no more paper chaos

Updated 30 October 2026 · Energieagentur Berger GmbH

A digital service book collects every service, repair and invoice for your vehicle in one place. It can't get lost, is right at hand when you sell and works for every brand.

Why paper is no longer enough

The stamped paper service book often sits in a drawer, gets wet or disappears after a move. E-bikes and e-scooters often don't have one at all. Invoices end up as PDFs in your inbox or as slips in the glovebox. When you need them, for a warranty claim or a sale, the one that matters is missing.

What belongs in a service book

Service book, service record, maintenance log: all the same?

In everyday use these terms almost always mean the same thing: proof that a vehicle was serviced regularly. For cars people often say “full service history”. For e-bikes it is usually called a service book or maintenance log. Going digital only changes where it lives: instead of stamps in a booklet, there are entries with receipts.

Digital, but not tied to anyone

Many digital service books belong to a manufacturer, a drive system or a workshop network. If you change brand or workshop, that doesn't help you much. A brand-independent book belongs to you. You record whether you did the service yourself or had it done at any workshop. The invoice is proof enough.

How it works with ValueDoc

  1. Add the vehicle: photograph the type plate or registration document, the app reads the data.
  2. After each service, photograph the invoice or pick the PDF. Date, workshop and amount are recognised, you just check.
  3. When you sell, share the book with a link or hand the whole file over to the buyer.

Frequently asked questions

Is a digital service book legally valid?

There is no legally prescribed form for a service book. What matters is traceable evidence. A digital book with invoices as proof is well suited for that. What a manufacturer requires for its voluntary guarantee is set out in its guarantee terms.

Do I need a particular workshop?

No. In ValueDoc you enter any workshop, or “self” if you did the service yourself.
